Red Dots!

We have held The Affordable Art Show every January for the past seven years.  It always gets the year off to a great start and this year has been no exception.

Even although people were snowed in a couple of days before the exhibition opening, and we looked like this . . . .

. . . we still had a busy preview day and the sales have kept coming since then!

We are only in week two of the exhibition, but I always like to celebrate the artists' work that has sold so far.  They are all sporting their red dots in the gallery, but then they will be whisked off to good homes.  So here are some of the beautiful works that have been snapped up already.

Gordon Wilson is one of our most popular artists and always sells well . . . .

As does Edinburgh artist Joyce Gunn Cairns MBE . . . .

Sarah Anderson from Fife is our favourite jeweller and her silversmithing is highly desirable . . . .

This is a jam-packed exhibition of smaller works, and there really is something for everyone.  We have a fabulously diverse mix of artists which is what this show is all about.

James Cosgrove RGI RSW

Anne Morrison

Although the works shown here have sold, we have so many beautiful works on display from these artists and many others.

Ashley Cook

Sandy Murphy RSW RGI PAI

More of the exhibition can be viewed on our website: http://www.smithygallery.com/

The exhibition continues until 22 February.

Kevin Low

Kevin Low is one of the exhibiting artists in our current Affordable Art Show and his work stands out though as something quite original and unique.

The Thief

The work is striking and enigmatic.  Each painting draws you into the world of a carefully crafted character. They are at once intriguing, witty and mysterious.  And most intriguing of all, this isn’t painting as we know it.

The Bachelor

At first glance these could be oil paintings, but there is a unique quality to them and on closer inspection, something completely different.

Kevin is using a relatively new digital technique to create his beautiful works.  Recently championed by David Hockney, the technique of digital painting is being explored by more and more artists.

The Rival

Never to replace painting, it is another medium that can now be used to create works of art. He draws his work with a digital tablet and pen.  The images are then printed using archival papers and inks. Each print is produced only in an edition of 10, making them pleasingly more affordable.

Kevin is fast becoming one of Scotland’s best-known digital painters.

The paintings will be on show until 22 February.

The Opening

Our first exhibition of the year, the Affordable Art Show, opened on Sunday. This is an annual exhibition, now in its seventh year.

All works in this exhibition are under £500 and the gallery is full of a fabulous selection of smaller paintings from around thirty artists.

It had been snowing hard in the days up to the opening, but the sun came out and it was a beautiful and bright sparkly cold day.

Thank you to all the artists and art-lovers who came and enjoyed the roaring fire, the wine and chocolates, and of course the show!

People came from as far as Edinburgh as well as further afield and made the day a great success.

The Affordable Art Show

All the work has arrived for our Affordable Art Show and we are busy hanging for the preview this Sunday.

This annual exhibition gets the year off to a great start. Opening mid January and now in its seventh year, all works are under £500.

The exhibition showcases smaller works from the gallery's favourite and most popular artists.

This exhibition is also a great way to introduce new artists to the gallery.  We will be showing works for the first time by Jane Gardiner and Cara MacKinnon Crawford.

We still have a lot of hanging to do, but with work like this, it's always a great pleasure.

The exhibition previews on Sunday 18th January, 2-5pm
