Gordon Wilson is one of the exhibiting artists in our current Affordable Art Show and as always, visitors to the gallery are loving his work.

Over recent years Gordon has become a very well known and respected artist both here in Scotland and all over the UK. Working predominantly in oils, his subject matter ranges from narrative portraiture and figurative paintings to dynamic landscapes.  His sheer love of Scotland comes through his bold and energetic paintings.

Born in 1968 in Glasgow, Gordon has spent the last 25 years in the art field as designer, picture framer, restorer and artist. Painting is his passion and through his hard work and dedication, well-deserved recognition has followed.

Demand for Gordon’s work has grown steadily each year as his reputation increases. He has exhibited in both the Royal Glasgow Institute  and the Paisley Arts Institute, as well in leading galleries throughout the UK.

He has won several awards and has developed a strong following from many private collectors.  His work is now part of many large collections at home and abroad. 

 

His paintings also features in several corporate collections including Biocon, and Marks and Spencer.

We are lucky enough to be exhibiting these five beautiful paintings of his.  Two have already sold and I'm sure the rest will follow!

Brilliant Show!

When an exhibition is having a great response, I always wish it could last a bit longer. The Gordon Wilson exhibition ends this Sunday and it does feel a little too soon.

Every time I hang a new exhibition, the look and also the mood of the gallery is transformed. This exhibition has had a striking, bright and bold effect.  I have loved it, as have the many visitors.

Gordon Wilson's career has been growing in leaps and bounds, and the response to his paintings has reflected this.  Many good exhibitions unfortunately don't get the sales that they deserve, but Gordon does.

We have sold over a third of the exhibition so far, and we still have a week to go.  Every painting is just as gorgeous as the next, so I will be sorry to see the end of this show.

So while the odd snowflake falls, the warmth of Gordon's paintings cast a glow about the gallery.

The exhibition continues until Sunday 31st March.  Don't miss it!

A Brilliant Start

The Gordon Wilson exhibition has had fabulous sales all week.  It has been an amazing start to this much-anticipated exhibition, but it's been even better than expected.

Now I personally love to see what sells at an exhibition, so these are all the sales so far!

These are all medium sized to the very large paintings.  All works with dimensions and prices can now be viewed on-line.

We still have over three weeks to go and just as big a variety of paintings to enjoy. Gordon has really put together a striking collection of works covering his love of dynamic expressive landscape and the surreal narrative.

There's nothing better than seeing the paintings in person though.

The exhibition runs until 31st March, and we are open every day except Mondays.

The Gordon Wilson Preview

The Gordon Wilson exhibition previewed on Sunday and what a day it was!  

All was ready for a busy turnout.  The beautiful paintings were hung, the champagne chilled, the fire lit, and the chocolates were piled high.

All was ready for a busy turnout, and we were not disappointed!

We were filled to the rafters with fans of Gordon's and friends of the gallery and the sales just kept coming.

Big congratulations to Gordon Wilson for creating such a beautiful collection of works that lit the gallery up.

And a massive thank you to to every person who came, making the day the great success that it was.

But it's only the beginning!

The exhibition runs until 31st March.

About The Artist

Gordon Wilson

Born in 1968 and educated in Glasgow, Gordon has spent the last 25
years in the art field as designer, picture framer, restorer and artist.

It is in the last 8 years however, that he has managed to dedicate more of his time to his love of painting.

Painting is his passion and through his hard work and dedication,
recognition has followed, and he is fast becoming one of Scotland’s
reputable and sought-after artists.

Working predominantly in oils, his subject matter ranges from dynamic landscape to bold figurative and narrative works. His expressive paintings are inspired by his native Scotland; whether dark and moody or an explosion of colour, they reflect the ever changing moods of both the countryside and the artist himself.

Demand for Gordon’s work continues to grow. He has exhibited in
several solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group
exhibitions including The Royal Glasgow Institute (RGI) and The Paisley Arts Institute (PAI).

He has won several awards including the The Flora Wood Award in 2006 and 2008; and awards at The Paisley Arts Institute in 2009 and 2012.

Over the years he has developed a strong following from many private collectors. His paintings are part of many large collections in the UK and abroad. His work also features in several corporate collections including Biocon, and Marks and Spencer.

We are busy getting everything ready for this much awaited solo exhibition which previews this Sunday.

The Collection

The paintings have arrived for the Gordon Wilson solo exhibition opening this Sunday!

When I look around at all of the paintings peaking out from beneath their wrapping, it is then that it becomes apparent just how much the artist has to work to put together a solo exhibition.  It makes me proud if that doesn't sound too foolish.

For months I work in conjunction with an artist, discussing an exhibition and all the details that go into that, but when I see the results of their dedication over those months, to their work and to the upcoming exhibition, I feel a swell of pride.

The paintings sit there very modestly, but the weight of the time, effort and talent that's gone into them begins to fill the room.  I know what this feeling means, it means we have an impressive exhibition on our hands, an event.

We are of course talking about Gordon Wilson, and we have held a solo exhibition of his before and it was an event.  But that was almost two years ago, and I think I feel something even more.  A true artist always has to evolve, he can't stay the same, because as individuals we are hopefully always evolving throughout life.

This is what I can feel from Gordon's work.  It's not even properly unwrapped, and I can feel a certain strength.  Rather than a number of paintings, he has created a collection.

The exhibition previews on Sunday 3 March, 2pm to 5pm.  I can't wait!

All eyes are turning to the fabulous Gordon Wilson as we prepare for his upcoming solo exhibition.

The Beached Navigator

Opening at the beginning of March, this is the highly anticipated second exhibition with this successful Scottish painter, such was the success of his first exhibition almost two years ago.

Gordon is busy completing his collection of new paintings, but some of the finished pieces are beginning to arrive at the gallery.

This is always an exciting time for me as so much is in the planning of an exhibition, but when I see the paintings arriving at the gallery, I can stop and remember that this is what it's really all about.

Gordon Wilson Goes Solo

We are excitedly turning our attentions to our first solo exhibition of the year.  New paintings by Gordon Wilson will be opening at the beginning of March.

Red, Skye

A Smithy Gallery favourite, this will be Gordon's second solo exhibition with us.

A Belty on The Bow

He has been working solidly to put together his biggest and best collection yet.  I am just getting to see the first images myself as the collection is being completed, but I already know that this will be another success.

Wee Gee and Bee

Gordon Wilson is a well known and very successful Scottish painter whose reputation goes from strength to strength.  A relative youngster in his early forties, his passion for his subject matter and for painting itself has earned him many successful exhibitions and places in art collections all over the country, and no doubt beyond.

Red Sail, East Coast

He is particularly popular in Scotland I think because of the boldness in his work and also the humour that underlies many of his pieces.  He is also not afraid to visit the darker narrative as well.

The Navigator

It's work you can't ignore, and that's what we like!  Watch this space for more beauties to come . . . .

I know we are just getting used to Autumn, but I'm too excited about what's coming for our winter exhibition.  I promise it's not winter yet, it's just a sneaky peak!

We have invited twenty-five artists to put together a collection that will warm the heart and thrill the eye.  Opening on 4 November, this exciting exhibition will take us all the way up to Christmas Eve.

Our invited artists include many Smithy favourites such as David Martin RSW RGI, Gordon Wilson, Margaretann Bennett RSW and Sandy Murphy RSW RGI PAI, but I'm very excited to say that they will be joined by several artists who are new to the gallery.
