Christmas Exhibition

We're in to December, the fairy lights are up, and our Christmas Exhibition has gotten off to a great start.

For the Christmas Exhibition, which takes us right through to the New Year, we like the gallery to be filled with variety and colour; a joyous celebration of talent and creativity.

We have a fabulous mix of paintings by all of our favourite gallery regulars such as Joyce Gunn Cairns, George Birrell, Marion Thomson, Paul Barnes and Cate Inglis, amongst many others.

We are also delighted to welcome new artists including Jane McCance, Owen Henderson, Kevin McFall and Claire Harrigan RSW.

Christmas is also a great time to fill the gallery with many of our favourite applied artists.  From stunning bronze sculpture by Lesley Carruthers, ceramics by Anne Morrison, steel and recycled tin sculptures by Barbara Franc, accessories by Nikky D'Aguilar and jewellery by Sarah Anderson.

We also have Gift Vouchers available which are proving a popular gift for art-lovers.  These are available for any value.

Pop in and see the show when you can!

Hanging the Christmas Exhibition

There's always something exciting and a little bit daunting when all the paintings have arrived for a big mixed exhibition like our upcoming Christmas show.

After a lot of planning, and inviting your favourite artists to take part, when all the work arrives it feels like it's all coming to fruition, except the hard work is just beginning.

The next task is to get the paintings from cosily wrapped up on the floor to adorning the gallery walls.

You want to show them all off fabulously, but still fit them all in. . . . . .

Starting is sometimes the hardest part.  Suddenly admin and writing blog posts seems easier . . .

Must go and unwrap!

The Christmas exhibition opens Sunday 23rd November.

The Last Week

When the gallery has a solo exhibition it goes without saying that you want to do your best for that artist and of course you want to sell everything!  The former is a little easier than the latter.

Oracle

When I have a solo exhibition with an artist it is because I love their work and I like and respect them also.  So naturally my highest hopes are for them to be incredibly pleased with the result.

The Margaretann Bennett solo exhibition ends this Sunday and thankfully there has been a great response and lots of sales.  But . . . . several beautiful paintings have yet to sell and I'm showcasing them on the blog today.

Another Time, Another Place

These are the paintings that I have loved from the moment I saw them.  They are hanging beautifully in the gallery and they are just missing one thing - a red dot!

Emergence

In my experience, the last week of a solo exhibition is a busy one.  Many people grab a painting immediately and some wait to see if the one they want is still available at the end of an exhibition before going for it.

Snow Flurry, Dumgoyne

It has been a joy to stage this exhibition of new paintings by Margaretann.  She works incredibly hard and she puts great time, effort and feeling into her multi-layered paintings.

Writing Set and Three Keys

The exhibition continues until 5pm on Sunday 16th.

Cabinet of Curios

When we have a solo exhibition, we like the artist to take advantage of our glass display cabinets that feature in the centre of the gallery.

These can be used to display sketchbooks, sketches, or anything that the artist feels compliments their new collection of works.

I knew when Margaretann Bennett came to using the cabinets, they would be nothing short of wonderful.

Alongside smaller unframed paintings, the artist has filled the cabinets with objects she has collected over the years, many of which inspire and also feature in her paintings.

These include antique love letters, exotic beetles, jewellery and beautiful examples of turn of the century photography.

This exhibition has attracted many visitors and one by one these uniquely beautiful paintings are finding homes to go to.

The exhibition continues until 16 November and all of the works can be viewed on the website:

Margaretann Bennett RSW - New Paintings

The Margaretann Bennett exhibition got off to a great start on Sunday.  We have 33 beautiful paintings gracing the walls of the gallery, transforming the space into a new and wonderful world.

Snow Flurry, Dumgoyne

The exhibition does feature some beautiful landscapes and still lifes, but the majority of the exhibition is figurative, something that Margaretann has been focussing on for the last few years.

These range from large paintings through to lots of small works.

Gauntlets

Each painting is a glimpse into a world of a different character that tempts you in with an unflinching gaze.

Each painting is fabulously titled, giving you a clue to the character's back story.  The whole exhibition with titles and sizes can be viewed online.  You can also see what's already sold and what's not!

Coming Up . . . .

We are delighted to be getting ready to have a second solo exhibition with the inimitable Margaretann Bennett RSW.

The conspirators

Our last solo exhibition with Margaretann was in 2011 and we can't wait for the gallery to be transformed again.

Gauntlets

Margaretann is one of those artists whose work is unmistakable.  It's bold, beautiful and loaded with subtext.

Tangled

The exhibition previews on Sunday 19 October and from the paintings that have already arrived at the gallery, it's going to be stunning.

The Eccentric

Until then, our solo exhibition with Joyce Gunn Cairns continues until this Sunday.  For more information, click on the link:
